Plastic pollution is everywhere. Beach cleanups and recycling are simply not enough. Over 90% of the plastic ever produced has not been recycled, yet companies are set to dramatically increase production of plastic packaging over the next decade. Twice as concerning is the fact that 99% of plastics come from fossil fuels like oil. Plastics are literally choking the environment with emissions from its production and the waste generated from its use.
To truly tackle this plastic pollution crisis and the climate emergency globally, we need to solve the problem at its source.
Corporations like Coca-Cola, PesiCo, Nestlé, and Unilever all have a huge role to play when it comes to plastic pollution. We are sold coffee, soda, chips, candy, shampoo, and soap contained in plastic that we have no choice but to throw away. It is time for these corporations to stop producing single-use plastic and invest in plastic-free alternatives!
